Even though Junior Boys' music evokes dimly-lit nightclubs and late night regrets the disco leanings and Jeremy Greenspan's hushed vocals managed to work in broad daylight — though it did take some time for the crowd to get into it.
A homecoming of sorts, Hamilton’s Junior Boys closed a two month North American tour supporting their excellent new album, their fifth, Big Black Coat at the Phoenix on a chilly Saturday night.
Eight years into their career the Canadian duo of singer/guitarist Jeremy Greenspan and engineer Matt Didemus last year finally attracted some interest outside of dance music cognoscenti and bloggers with their fourth album It's All True.
To me, the Doug Fir Lounge was the place for hipsters in the City of Roses, a place where a guy in mismatched athletic socks could proudly don his sweatband and ironic track suit next to the girl in the Goth costume.
