It’s been a typical British September day; overcast and cold even though we were expecting a heatwave. As such a trip out to a hot and sweaty gig venue was exactly what was called for. It’s been several years since I last saw Jurassic 5. I actually think the last time I saw them was prior to their split in 20
And boy did they kill it with their vocalism, with the four MC’s – Chali 2na, Akil, Soup and Marc 7 – serving up a lyrical storm along with some entertaining help from DJ’s Cut Chemist and Nu-Mark.
After the hype that surrounded their debut EP, which resulted in 'Concrete Schoolyard' becoming an indie-disco staple, their subsequent releases offered little progression, leaning heavily on old-school nostalgia.
DJ 26th Letter, aka Zehrish Naera, kicked things off with tunes that everyone could recognise: Arrested Development, House Of Pain, A Tribe Called Quest and any number of retro hits from the golden age of ‘90s hip hop were spun.
