Lucinda Williams (born January 26, 1953) is an American rock, folk, and alt-country songwriter and singer. A three-time Grammy Award winner, she was named "America's best songwriter" by TIME magazine in 2002.
A while back, I texted a friend and asked him to convince me that I needed to go see Lucinda Williams when she came to the DPAC in Durham. We talked for a bit, but eventually he said “you won't regret it.” That turned out to be an understatement.
On the 25th of January Louisiana country star Lucinda Williams played to a sold out Vicar Street bringing along rock act L.A. Edwards to open the show. This gig was waylaid because of the pandemic and her last visit to Ireland was back in 2016.
Lucinda Williams is one of the songwriting greats. She may be frail now, as a result of a stroke, but that only added poignancy and emotion to a night which demonstrated what a wonderfully intelligent and magnificently powerful performer she is.
