The Pennsylvania musician (who’s long since left living in PA) has been putting out sweet, pastoral indie-rock under his own name and, most prominently, as Matt Pond PA, for this whole century/millennium.
Having yet to achieve the mass success of some of their contemporaries the band’s latest effort probably won’t catapult them into the realm of critic darlings but Matt Pond PA can still hold their heads high.
With fake trees extra ground spotlights and an old stag head mounted on the wall behind them this once-Philly-now-New York band didn’t look like most acts to grace the stage at Bowery Ballroom (QRO venue review).
It’s a beautiful record as only Pond can deliver, and his gig at The Foundry in support of it a couple weeks back – rumored to be the final matt pond PA tour – was equal parts moving and rousing.
