Michael Gira (pronounced jeer-AH) (born 1954) is an American musician, author, and artist. He is the main force behind the New York City musical group Swans, active from 1982 to 1997, reformed in 2010.

Gira played a nearly two-hour set of unfamiliar new material and deep cuts from his prolific solo career.
Usually they're required to fish Gira's rich baritone subtleties from a deluge of – sometimes literally – vomit-inducing volume designed to melt your pancreas at 500 paces.
She carries a cello case which she proceeds to open up and disgorge, sits down with her instrument and tests the monitors in front of the smallish audience.
