His career begins and ends beyond the cinematic realm but his compositions are visually evocative regardless of any motion picture affiliations.
Best known for his many film scores including the soundtrack to The Piano and The Draughtsman’s Contract Nyman is also the brains behind operas The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat Facing Goya and Noises.
In a sold-out Royal Festival Hall Nyman well known for his minimalistic approach to music played a selection of famous film scores and compositions with his band.
Having debuted his startling larynx in early 1990s art-soul duo Thieves covering Scritti Politti and the Cocteau Twins he went on to form McAlmont and Butler with former Suede guitarist Bernard Butler then work with film composer David Arnold.
Billed as Music From and For Film it was a rare opportunity to catch this highly acclaimed and most venerated of British artists playing solo piano music against a backdrop of films.
