Critic Consensus
Based on 27 concert reviews, the critic consensus is that Preoccupations is rated as a decent live performer, with shows that lack distinction. Preoccupations concert reviews describe live shows and performances as ferocious, energetic, and pleasing.
Preoccupations are a Canadian post-punk band, that formed in Calgary, Alberta in 2012 under the name Viet Cong. The group consists of two ex-members of the rock band Women, vocalist/bassist Matt Flegel and drummer Mike Wallace, as well as guitarists Scott Munro and Daniel Christiansen.
Two albums and a whole lot of touring later, the four-piece have hit the road again in support of their latest release, New Material, which reveals a more brooding, considered side to their frenetic style of math-rock-post-punk-doom-goodness.
Viet Cong their former band name is also a racist reference to a group that killed innocent lives during the Vietnam War and hurtful to the Vietnamese community as Hooded Fang's April Aliermo wrote in Exclaim! last September.
A shot of adrenaline kicks off proceedings in The Pink Room on Monday. Melbourne punks CLAMM waste no time in making themselves heard, shaking the four floors of YES as they fire through their set.
