The Calgary indie band Reuben and the Dark, so long one of Albertas better-kept secrets, have come a long way since Reuben Bullock was doing open mic sessions in Calgary and busking in the street.
The band recently released its debut album Funeral Sky on the Arts & Crafts label, and Bullock mentioned that this performance was, in a sense, a belated record release show.
Los Angeles’ NO opened the night, setting the mood for the show with their expansive, layered sound. The young band has been making a name for themselves with their romantic pop, channeling front man Bradley Hanan Carter’s heartbreak into songs that hinge on catharsis and release. On their debut full-length,
Lifetime Collective presented Reuben and The Dark’s tour kickoff at the HiFi Club on August 18 with the support of Calgary’s Deadhorse and Tempest Fugit.
