Southern Avenue

The Hollow didn't have the crowd it should have Friday night; was it the bad weather, that the band wasn't well known (yet), or too many other shows last night? It doesn't matter. For the hundred or so people that braved the cold, they experienced rising stars in the blues and soul world.

The sound of Memphis blues and soul shook the 9:30 Club recently when Southern Avenue opened for Galactic on the latters 25th anniversary tour.

With its cabaret tables and intimate stage, it looks like what I imagine 1950’s jazz clubs to have been like (without the cigarette smoke of course, this is 2017).

Nashville is known as “Music City,” but Memphis is Tennessee’s other home of musical heritage.
