Take 5 southern california guys, mix in some surf, stone, and psychedelic, throw them in a haunted mansion in west hochiminster and with a little luck, you might get a band like The Growlers. The bands name comes from lead singer Brooks Nielsen and guitarist Moustache Matt.

The Powerstation fortunately became the designated host for The Growlers only NZ show of their 2020 world tour, and what a night it turned out to be, as the Californian outfit delivered a quick fire back to back set of their finest material for an in-tune and highly supportive audience.
The Growlers performed at Aucklands Powerstation last night, with the six-piece giving the chill and groovy crowd a two-hour set filled with dreamy psychedelic surf and disco-infused funk-pop.
Pretty much every possible effect was at play somewhere in the guitar, synth and vocal, but it all sounded great while the rises and tempo changes were complex and tight.
Who are The Growlers? Their gig at The Zoo (3 November) sparked many a conversation and generated an exceptional amount of interest on social media; I was drawn to their vivid album artwork but couldn’t quite familiarise myself with much of their music.
