Since I couldn’t switch bodies with my older sister I’ve had to make do with seeing The Kinks The Who Eric Burdon and others the second time around.
More recent songs, like the AOR Weakness, sat comfortably in a set-list of golden classics: Just One Look, Jennifer Eccles, Yes I Will, Bus Stop and their first No 1, I’m Alive, all wonderfully recalling the Swinging 60s.
The six-piece played for nearly two hours, running through plenty of hits via a PA that was a little thin to start with, but which bulked out as the night went on.
The first goose-bump moment came with the opening chords of Very Last Day, featuring original guitarist Tony Hicks and relative newcomer (10 years), vocalist Peter Howarth, who’s taken over Alan Clarke’s part of The Hollies’ sound.
