The crowd was on its feet smiling, singing and clapping along - to a rendition of Happy Birthday in celebration of another year in the life of singer Aaron Starkey.
It’s been a busy week for The Slow Readers Club, promoting their new album, Knowledge, Freedom, Power. They’ve done short acoustic record store gigs, album listening shows and TV interviews.
Tonight they were going back to their roots playing in support of the Music Venue Trust who raised millions to support small venues to survive lockdown when they couldn't put bands on.
The story of The Slow Readers Club is one to warm the coldest of hearts. For years they flitted around the fringes of the Manchester music scene and were almost unheard of outside an M postcode.
