With no air conditioning poor acoustics and a strange floor arrangement the arena on Boston University's campus wasn't the best place for The White Stripes much less anyone to play.
The four-day event in Hyde Park aims for the authentic with warm beer in paper cups and stalls touting raver tat and attracts a surprisingly hedonistic all-weather audience many dressed in trainers band T-shirts and cagoules.
Which is why, as the greatest live band on the planet make their return two years later, it's a bit of a comedown to see the sound deteriorate so badly that half the crowd start chatting during the show.
Fittingly for a band whose current album is called Get Behind Me Satan this forbidden fruit will pulse red and white behind them all night looming like a symbol of original sin as they charge through a riotous show.
