A thrilling set from Lonnie Jordan’s ensemble might be Chaka Khan’s greatest coup for 2024’s festival

George Clinton and his shambolic funk tribe took the stage first, mixing some of their most famous jams — “(Not Just) Knee Deep,” “Flashlight,” and “Atomic Dog,” to name a few — with thrashing guitar excursions that bordered on grindcore.

Old favorites and familiar grooves were brought back to life as both bands laid out an extensive repertoire.

Their fans were out in full force for this Memorial Day weekend event that included opening acts El Chicano, Malo, and Tierra-the three bands who form “Latin Legends Live.

It was a cool and cloudy night in Los Angeles, but the biggest cloud could be seen looming over the Greek Theatre in Griffith Park.

Add in some jazz, blues, reggae and Latin undertones and the explosive ensemble was truly a multi-cultural melting pot.
