Critic Consensus
Based on 35 concert reviews, the critic consensus is that Amadou and Mariam is rated as an enjoyable live performer, with some notable strengths. Amadou and Mariam concert reviews describe live shows and performances as joyous, soulful, danceable, lovely, thought-provoking, and empowering.
Amadou and Mariam are a musical duo from Mali, composed of the couple Mariam Doumbia (vocals) (born in Mali's capital Bamako 15 April 1958) and Amadou Bagayoko (guitar and vocals) (born in Bamako 24 October 1954).
One of those lovely crowds that you sometimes get at Concorde 2, where people of all types had gathered out of a sheer love of the music, streamed in to utterly fill the venue, each one beaming and expectant.
And it really is pitch black so much that your eyes deprived of any stimulus at all start to see things that aren’t there – weirdly swimming lights for me and at one point spookily an eye.
Subsequently married Amadou Bagayoko and Mariam Doumbia have since received support from the likes of Manu Chao and Damon Albarn but this show – or rather sensory experiment – took place very much on their own terms.
