Archie Shepp’s performance at the Kennedy Center was absolutely beautiful
“A change is gonna come” he intoned in his powerful throaty voice hurling the Afrocentric lyrics of his poem Revolution at a captivated mainly white late night audience.
Jazzfest Berlin (formerly Berlin Jazz Festival) celebrated two events this year: its 50th anniversary and the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall.
Shepp's 20-plus US/French orchestra uninhibitedly revisited the Attica Blues repertoire the activist had assembled following the bloody state suppression of a protest at the mainly black Attica prison in 1971.
