ON TOUR
Neighborhood Theater, Charlotte, United States (February 27)
Big Head Todd & the Monsters is a rock band formed in 1986 in Colorado. The band has released eight studio albums since 1989 with their 1993 album Sister Sweetly going well beyond platinum in the US.
Big Head Todd and the Monsters rocked the sold-out crowd at the legendary Solana Beach, California venue, the Belly Up Tavern. This was my first time attending a Big Head Todd show and I wasn't sure what to expect. I was blown away. This is a band you need to see live to truly appreciate.
I'll admit I have not thought of Big Head Todd and The Monsters for at least twenty years. Of course I was familiar with their hit single “Bittersweet” off of their album Sister Sweetly (Giant Records/Warner) but since then I really hadn't paid much attention to the band.
Billed as “Oklahoma's newest destination for food, music and spirits,“ The Jones Assembly is one of OKC's newest music venues catering to a wider range of music than what Oklahoma City radio caters to. And on Sunday June 3rd, they welcomed Big Head Todd & the Monsters back to the city after a long hiatus.
And not just in comparison to the opening performance of JJ Grey & Mofro: the Colorado-based quartet proved how an insinuating approach to playing music live can be the catalyst for its most resounding impact.
