Danielle Roper enjoys a flawless performance by Broughton-born singer Elkie Brooks at The Lowry
The preceding 25-minute component saw her in good humour, not least when altering or dropping lyrics, and shifting tempos and arrangements, keeping her polished band on their toes to great effect.
A triple-whammy as Elkie Brooks returned to London’s Cadogan Hall: 52 years in show business, 35 years since the release of Pearl’s A Singer, and her birthday!
Being in the business for 51
years may account for the
sleek, polished performance of
Elkie and her six-piece band,
which included two keyboardists
and saxophonist Stevie Jones.
She still comes with attitude.
One minute a slow ballad,
reflecting her early Perry Como
influence, the next touching on
Joplin. Thr
