Sydney electro-soul band Okenyo opened the night showcasing lead vocalist Zindzi Okenyo’s powerhouse vocals and overwhelming energy dominating the stage as she belted out tracks like Broken Chest and Isis and Osisris.
This time last year was a huge night but mainly due to the homecoming of local favourites Gold Fields so I was quite curious as to whether tonight would have a similar result with Jinja Safari in town for their Bays of Fire tour.
While the crowd definitely gave the set their tick of approval, the clear highlights came when the tightly-wound guitar riffs were given pride of place, allowing James Vann's lyrics to sit nicely on top.
