Karnivool is a five-piece progressive rock group based in Perth, Australia that was formed by Ian Kenny in 1996, who at the time filled the roles of both guitarist and vocalist for the band while they played Carcass and Nirvana covers. Their name stems from the band being initially described by local fans as "a bunch of clowns".

The crowd is full of vim and vigour this night, ravenous for Karnivool’s music and presence.
You’d think they teach people to fend off deadly spiders and venomous snakes with 11/8 polyrhythms and twelve-minute epics, based on the number of truly excellent progressive metal bands from Australia.
It takes a special kind of nerve to accept the support slot on a show like this where the one-eyed and dedicated are out in force with little patience for distraction beyond the headliner.
