Mark Eitzel (born January 30, 1959) is best known as lead singer of the San Francisco band american music club. He was voted Rolling Stone's Songwriter of the Year in 1991.
Much as he’s sticking to the water this evening, it’s hardly an incongruous venue for Mark Eitzel though – so many of the characters in his songs inhabit a dusty, shadow- and often drink-filled world.
Thirty two years is a long time, and it wasn’t surprising that neither Mark Eitzel nor Howe Gelb played anything from their respective debut records, The Restless Stranger or Valley Of Rain (if you aren’t familiar, please check them out).
But if you want an example of how they can transform a project then look no further than Bernard Butler’s work on Mark Eitzel’s current offering Hey Mr Ferryman.
