Pikelny hails from Chicago, IL, where he spent his youth in joint custody between Wrigley Field and the Old Town School of Folk Music.

Banjo jokes are second only to lawyer jokes in the American zeitgeist, so Noam Pikelny, a master banjo player doubtless knows what he is getting into when he presents his "One Man, One Banjo" tour.
Band leader Noam Pikelny proclaimed to the sold-out crowd near the end of the second set, "This was a complete experiment. We didn't know if anyone would be here to see us tonight. It means a lot to us."

Fresh off his Grammy Award win for Best Folk Album with the Punch Brothers for All Ashore, banjo player Noam Pikelny appeared with fiddler Stuart Duncan at DC’s City Winery on Tuesday for an evening of duets.
Noam Pikelny had his performance philosophy whittled down to an efficient credo that he proudly shared with his audience last night at the Norton Center for the Arts’ Weisiger Theatre in Danville.
Pikelny, who now makes his home in Brooklyn along with his Punch Brothers bandmates, has been part of a resurgence of bluegrass in this city that was once a hotbed of activity for the genre.
The ticket line, which usually moves as fast as the doorman can make change and stamp hands, was backed up with hundreds of people queued up outside, some for quite some time.
