Shoniwa arrived onstage in a blaze of light in a spinning gold-hooped skirt that seemed to mimic a flying saucer in the chaos before launching into a storming rendition of the band’s I Want You Back.

One week prior to the Olympic games opening ceremony was the BT River of Music Festival.

If laying down for 'the man' means they can put on such an excellent show then sell all their songs for adverts.

However although they may be experiencing their first steps in to mainstream success (after only forming in 2003) there is one band which clearly stands at the forefront of awesomeness in so many ways – The Noisettes.

I missed the support, being on a mission to buy some chewing gum to freshen my breath… Although the new Academy has been introduced before on this site, this was my first visit and I would just like to say that it’s definitely an improvement both as regards sound, and in the view you can get from all angles,

They have the odd moment of brilliance when their trebly guitars evoke Josef K but mostly they play run of the mill '80s influenced jangly pop.
