Teitur Lassen, from Hoyvik, Faroe Islands, first came to the attention of the world with the release of his 2003 debut album Poetry & Aeroplanes, which won him rave reviews. He concentrates on creating inspiring melodies and gentle but finely observed, often wry and quirkily observant lyrics.
Innocence radiates from him and permeates his songs: when he sings of Josephine a girl from childhood who raced stray dogs and stole his grandmother's watch it is hard to believe those days are far behind him.
The highly praised album showed the Faroe Islander at his kookiest with quirky arrangements busy scripts and an almost self-conscious and – dare we say it – contrived level of oddness.
