With the exception of long-forgotten ’70s/’80s singer-songwriter Joe Jackson and – at a push – mediocre shoegazers The Telescopes Burton has always remained steadfastly bereft of anything resembling an artist of national significance.
With two Ivor Novello awards and a sell-out UK tour already under their belts, this intimate gig is just an extra string added to their bow to assist them with their potential rise to major breakthrough.
Ten years ago heartbreak helped inspire The Sleeper; the debut album by Brighton’s The Leisure Society. Fast-forward to 2019 and songwriter Nick Hemming is on stage at The Brudenell Social Club explaining how the new album, Arrivals and Departures, came from a very similar set of circumstances.
