Heavy Trash is an American band based in New York City formed by Jon Spencer of the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Matt Verta-Ray, formerly of New York bands Madder Rose and Speedball Baby. The band's music draws from an eclectic mix of genres, including Americana, blues, alternative rock, rockabilly, and punk.
Forming the wonderful and mildly terrifying Pussy Galore back in 1985 before moving on to the groovy, punk-blues of The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion in the early 90s.
So it’s no small feat that he’s still able to rake in the crowds, take the stage and rock out like a teenager, but he can and he did November 19 at The EARL with his new outfit, the trashy rockabilly quartet aptly named Heavy Trash.
I wasn't too sure how the night would go initially: would the show be overrun with greased-up dudes who look like mechanics or would the venue be empty? The Fucking Eagles went on first.
