First up was The Clause hailing from Birmingham, who took to the stage with a confidence rarely seen in such a young band. They have good reason to be having just announced a 2022 headline UK tour, judging by what was on offer tonight I can see why the lads are so popular.
Surround You from 2013’s Milkshake EP begins with a twinkling sampler intro – the contrasting hard sounds of the synth softened by the guitar and gentle nature of the lyrics, nostalgia surrounding us, mirroring the track title.
However, frontman John Powers’ vocal ability puts the previous band to shame, as do the songs themselves, which are of a high quality and sound as good as they did two decades ago. The only similarity between the two acts is their drummers: both are full of energy and really go for it on stage.
